Olympic Air and Cyprus Airways share frequent flyer clubs/VIP lounges with codesharing

Olympic Air and Cyprus Airways have announced details of a new and wide-ranging cooperation agreement. Both companies are certain they will benefit from strengthening their presence within the framework of a wider Southeast European market.

The prime purpose behind the agreement is to take advantage of the codesharing benefits that are to be had on both domestic and international flights operated by the two airlines. Olympic already have standing codeshares with Delta Airlines, Etihad Airways, Meridiana Fly and Flybaboo. Following the agreement with Cyprus Airways, the company is adding to its previous codesharing deal on flights between Athens, Herakleion, Rhodes, Thessaloniki, Larnaka and Pafos. Both airlines will now codeshare essentially all the domestic and foreign destinations on their respective schedules.

Passengers will not only be able to book cheaper flights between the carrier’s destinations, they can also enjoy the benefits of both companies’ frequent flyer programmes. Points are now awarded from Cyprus’ SunMiles programme, as well as Olympic’s Travelair Club. There is no restriction on point awards from the standpoint of which carrier handled the specific leg of a route and passengers have more opportunities to win free flights.

The two airlines plan to extend their cooperation into other sectors; for example, plans are being finalised for the common use of VIP lounges, mutual ground services in Cyprus, as well as other areas of commonality.

Olympic Air won the 2010 Silver Effie Award for Corporate Communication and took home the 2010/2011 ERA Silver Award for Airline of the Year.
