Ethiopia’s image has changed in the past decades from gaining a lot of attention during Live Aid to taking its place amongst the African nations. Ethiopia is a landlocked country located in the Horn of Africa, and its full title is the “Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia”. It is one of the most populous nations in Africa and is home to over 80 million people, taking up over a million square kilometres. Its capital is Addis Ababa and it is located south of Eritrea, east of Sudan, west of Djibouti and Somalia and north of Kenya. Ethiopia is often referred to as the cradle of humanity due to discovery of humanity’s oldest remains within its borders. It is believed to be the point from where homo sapiens spread throughout the Middle East and eventually throughout the world. Ethiopia is one of the few African nations that has been almost completely independent throughout its history.
Ethiopia’s main airport is Addis Ababa International, which receives flights from international destinations and is services by airlines such as British Airways, Emirates Airlines and Lufthansa Airlines. Attractions include Ethiopia’s natural beauty, such as its waterfalls and volcanic hot springs. It has some of the highest mountains in Africa and even Africa’s largest cave, located in Sof Omar. The country has grown a reputation for producing excellent runners and for its traditional rock-hewn churches. Ethiopia is the top coffee producing country in Africa.
