Scandinavia Tops Environmentally Friendly Holiday Destinations
With many modern day tourists wanting holidays in green and environmentally friendly destinations, it is not surprising that smog filled cities are falling by the wayside. Pristine credentials and a clean outlook are becoming increasingly popular and a new survey, conducted by The Economist has revealed that Scandinavia offers some of the most environmentally friendly locations.
While the survey found that Switzerland ranked the highest for pure air, clean water and pure outlook, Norway and Sweden took joint second place, whilst neighbouring Finland found fourth place. Providing the perfect base for hiking holidays, the Norwegian city of Bergen offers a fantastic local hotspot for those wanting to enjoy the greener side of life. Meanwhile, equal second in the green stakes, Sweden's huge array of islands, mountains, tundra and incredible landscapes provides a more than ample offering for holidaymakers wishing for more than city smog and bustling streets.
Coming in at fourth place, and creating a Scandinavian hat trick, Finland's Lapland remains one of Europe's greatest unspoiled locations. A huge playground for bikers, hikers and those who love nothing more than to camp beside pristine lakes and seek out wildlife including bear and lynx, Newsweek recently named Finland the "Best Country in the World". With a wide range of flights available to Helsinki, Gothenburg, and Stockholm in addition to Bergen, tourists will be able to experience Scandinavia's eco-credentials first hand.
