Berlin’s Film Festival Offers Glittering Ceremonies and Innovative Film Making

Air Berlin has been upgrading the facilities it provides to better serve the business market, limousine transfers for business travellers in some destinations being just one example. The airline is also introducing a business-points scheme which small and medium-sized companies can participate in. Once known as a low-cost leisure airline the company has attracted German business travellers away from Lufthansa with its improvements in services and along with British Airways it has been awarded the best short-haul business airline prize in a recent Business Travel World Awards ceremony.

Berlin is a destination that is known for its bustling and creative art, fashion and music scenes. It is a city that is still developing and has an exciting mix of the traditional and cutting edge. The Berlinale International Film Festival held in mid-February is one of Europe’s most important film festivals. The event is attended by well-known directors and actors and screenings of films are held at cinemas across the city.

The festival is the city’s largest cultural event and attracts over 19,000 film professionals from 115 countries. For two weeks the city enjoys the art, glamour and glittering parties that are part of the film festival. Around 400 films are shown the majority of which are World or European premieres. Big international films and experimental independent art-house productions are both included in the programme along with the best of German productions. The coveted Golden and Silver Bears are awarded by the international jury to films entered in the Competition, but there are also other awards for debut films and short films.
