No Waiting for Service at Waiters’ Race in Brussels
Speedy service and family fun are the norm at the Brussels Waiters' Race.September is the month for travellers visiting Brussels to enjoy the city’s annual Waiters’ Race. Restaurant waiters from all over the capital gather to test their speed and skill in a 2.5km run along the Esplanade du Cinquantenaire, during which they must balance a tray laden with three full glasses of wine as well as the opened bottle. The first waiter to arrive at the finishing line without having spilt a drop of wine is declared the winner.
The racing fun does not end there, however. While the main race is for professional waiters only, an amateur one is also held for those with a good sense of humour and a great sense of balance.
This annual event takes place over two days and draws substantial crowds, particularly for the race, while a large venue of attractions is designed around it to entertain the whole family. Brass band concerts and fine wine-tasting are offered, as well as open-air markets for attendees to browse and shop.
Direct flights are available to Brussels from Birmingham via Brussels Airlines and BMI, with connecting flights provided by Lufthansa, BMI, KLM, Air France, and Swiss International Airlines. With so many opportunities to travel, you will not want to miss a trip to the Waiters’ Race.
