Since 1973, the month-long Istanbul Music Festival has grown to draw the finest musicians and performers the world has ever known. This year’s line-up is sure to thrill holidaymakers as much as years past.
Holidaymakers visiting Istanbul from Birmingham should make a point of planning ahead. The Festival will be on for the entire month of June. The Festival aims to bring in the finest artists and musicians from both Turkey and internationally, from the very beginning. Sponsored by the Istanbul Foundation of Culture and Arts, the Festival aims to showcase all types of artistic pursuits, such as film, Jazz, art and theatre. The name was changed from Istanbul Festival to the Istanbul International Music Festival to set it apart from the many spin-off celebrations that came up in Turkey in later years.
This year’s festival will once again showcase world-renowned artists and performers. Past performers have included Philharmonic orchestra players, soloists from famous opera houses, and many well-known popular and Jazz singers as well. Dance groups from the Bolshoi Ballet to the American Ballet Theatre have been showcased, as well as Turkish traditional performers.
