Stornoway Hosts an Internationally Acclaimed Music Festival
The Celtic Festival attracts thousands to the Isle of Lewis every year.Mostly thought of as a wild and remote area of Scotland, the Outer Hebrides are some of the most beautiful islands in the country. Throughout most of the year, the charming town of Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis is a small village of only 12,000 people set in the far reaches of Scotland near the sea, but once a year that all changes. The Hebridean Celtic Festival is an event that has international appeal. The main focus of the festival is music, and throughout the years there have been many popular bands and performers who have headlined the exciting programme including Van Morrison, the Proclaimers, and the Waterboys.
Now in its second decade, this annual summer music festival has international appeal and attracts a crowd of thousands to the relatively small town of Stornoway. The population of the island swells by nearly half every year when the festival is running. Stornoway also takes advantage of this large gathering of tourists every year by running simultaneous programmes and events during the same week including art shows, workshops, street fairs, Gaelic storytelling events and plenty of other opportunities to enjoy the area’s unique and rich culture.
The Hebridean Celtic Festival has been named one of the best festivals in the world and has received many awards for its outstanding celebration of Scottish and Celtic music. Edinburgh to Stornoway flights are offered throughout the year for visitors wishing to explore this peaceful retreat located on the Isle of Lewis.
