Cruft’s Dog Show the largest in the world
Crufts Dog Show a chance to meet pedigreed and rescue dogs alike. When Charles Cruft began his famous Birmingham dog show in 1886, there were 57 classes and 600 entries. Today, the show attracts over 28,000 dogs every year, all hoping to win the coveted ‘Best in Show’ title.
The Cruft’s Dog Show, on in March in Birmingham, is the largest and most respected dog show in the entire world, having earned a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records. It is held every March at the National Exhibition Centre, and is well worth a stop if you happen to be visiting Birmingham from Glasgow.
This year’s show will include competition from some of the best dogs in the world in categories like Gundog, Terriers and Hounds, Toy and the ever popular Flyball.
Education is a big part of the show. A Discover Dogs section will allow visitors to meet and greet over 200 pedigreed dogs to familiarize themselves with the different breeds. For those seeking a companion dog, this is the best place in the world to discover the many possibilities the various breeds offer as companions, pets and working dogs.
Rescue groups will also be involved in Cruft’s famous dog show, promoting the plight of unwanted pets and helping people find companions from the cast-offs and strays. With thousands attending every year, the rescue groups have a great chance of finding suitable families for the animals in their care. Crufts is not only a show for highly-bred dogs, but an opportunity for those who are perhaps a bit less pedigreed, but no less grand companions.
