The Copenhagen Jazz Festival features numerous popular artists.One of the best reasons to visit Copenhagen during the summer is the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. This internationally recognized jazz festival has been held each year since 1979, and takes place in July. The total attendance each year is around 250,000 people, which makes it one of Europe's most important jazz festivals.
Several local landmarks in Copenhagen are used as venues for the festival, allowing visitors to see some of the city’s sights as well as hear great music. These include Tivoli Gardens, which is one of Europe's most popular amusement parks, the Royal Danish Theatre and the Copenhagen Opera House, which draws large crowds during the regular opera season. The acts that perform in these venues include both local jazz groups and internationally acclaimed jazz artists. Some of the artists who have appeared at the festival in past years include Sonny Rollins, Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock, Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. Hundreds of concerts are performed during the course of the festival.
One of the most unique aspects of the festival is the fact that there is a wide variety of jazz music played. This includes music from lesser known jazz artists who come from Africa, Asia and South America. There is even a special jazz event for children during the festival.
