Sail Away for Dublin
Dun Laoghaire Regatta is a celebration of the world's best yachtingDublin is a city where you can eat, drink and be merry. Just outside the city centre is Dun Laoghaire, Dublin's main port and sailing centre which is connected to central Dublin via the DART railway providing easy access to the harbour. While Dun Laoghaire is charming enough in itself, it is also the venue for the biennial Irish and UK Regatta. With regular flights from London's City Airport, you can be on the quayside within a few hours of leaving work.
The Regatta is a relatively new venture, with its inaugural week in 2005 being a combined venture between the town's four harbour, waterfront and town yachting clubs. Despite this regatta's relative infancy, the town has a long history of hosting regattas with the first one being recorded in 1828.
Today, the Dun Laoghaire Regatta takes place for a week in the month of July and attracts top yachts-people from all over the world, eager to try their hand at taming Dublin's waters. The regatta has a wide range of races catering for a vast number of classes. These attract all manner of sailing vessels, from cruisers through to dinghies, and every class in between. All told, the event lures over three thousand competitors on nearly 500 boats from a wide number of countries, eager to try their hand at navigating these waters.
