Munich’s Christmas Market attracts thousands
Munich’s Christmas Market is more than just shopping. This year’s Schwabing’s Christmas Market will attract thousands of visitors from all over the world to peruse the wares of over 100 artists putting their crafts on display. The Schwabing Christmas Market features hand-made crafts from artisans from all over Germany. The local council will once again choose the craftspeople by a jury, ensuring only the best handcrafts appear in the market.
Live concerts and entertainments are scheduled this year, so that when visitors to Munich from London City have finished their shopping, there will still be plenty to do in and around Muchener Freiheit, where the market is located. The streets and area around the station will feature all sorts of traditional music, and food stalls will provide on-the-go sustenance for those perusing the available crafts. The phenomenal architecture just adds to the holiday spirit, bringing Christmas alive in Munich as shoppers wander amongst the stalls and enjoy the live music and sample sweets, cakes, mulled wine and other goodies from the stalls.
The Schwabing’s Christmas Market has come a long way since its inception in 1975, when a group of artists, who began by showing their work at the former Swiss House, got the idea for a proper market. This year’s version of the Schwabing’s Christmas Market reflects the ideas of those first artists, while expanding to include the modern tradition of shopping, entertainments and fun.
Quality merchandise is still a priority, and visitors will find some of the finest hand-crafts in all of Germany at the Shwabing’s Christmas Market.
