Lebanon Lets Loose in Argentine Tango Fest

BeirutVibrant Beirut goes multicultural with worldwide dance festivals.

Lebanon is a lovely Middle Eastern mecca of music and dance, with festivals that cater to movers and shakers who appreciate both international and Middle Eastern dance. It may be not be considered a dancing destination, but Beirut, Lebanon’s colourful capital, is host to two large dance festivals that foreign tourists in town should check out whilst there.

South America meets the Middle East in Argentine tango during the Beirut International Tango Festival, held at the end of April and Early May. The Middle East’s largest South American dance festival is still young in its history, but has attracted large audiences as well as international and domestic dancers since its origin in 2009. Entrants can participate in dance workshops with some of tango’s top dancers held at the University of Beirut.

The Beirut International Platform of Dance, on the other hand, is an open celebration of contemporary dance in a variety of forms and is also held in April, a week before the Beirut International Tango Festival. The Platform of Dance is an eclectic mix of dance plays, theatre, workshops, meetings and exhibitions of some of the world’s most talented dancers. Included in the Platform of Dance is the Arab Dance Platform, with a cultural focus on Arabic dance styles and traditions. The Beirut International Platform of Dance is entering its seventh successful year of performances, drawing large numbers of spectators annually.

Interested tourists can take international flights that arrive into Beirut from all major UK airports, including London Heathrow.
