Boston knows how to throw a good party
Read how Boston's international festival flavour has taken the public by storm. For those of you who think of Boston as a place to stop off on the way to New York for a history lesson on the Boston Tea Party, you will be pleasantly surprised at what Boston has to offer. The truth is that Boston knows how to throw a good party. From Harborfest to the great Dragon Boat Festival, Boston folk don’t do things by halves.
Harborfest is a weeklong, family-friendly festival that takes place on the run up to the 4th July celebrations every year. Over 200 daily events are predominantly held in Boston’s historic downtown and waterfront districts, and main events like Children’s Day, Party on the Plaza, Extreme Sailing and Chowderfest are guaranteed to pull in the crowds and generate a buzzing carnival atmosphere.
For an equally entertaining festival you can attend the annual Dragon Boat Festival that takes place every year over two days between late May and mid-June. Established in 1979, this spectacular festival centres around a 50-boat race down the Charles River, from the Western Avenue Bridge to the Weeks footbridge. Thundering drums and cheers echo throughout the crowds, with the free street celebrations lasting two full days.
From celebrating Bastille Day in July in true French style, to the annual Harpoon Brewery’s Octoberfest Festival, there is a truly international festival flavour to this city that will never disappoint.
