Every year over 150 artists and dancers gather to provide a variety of free shows and concerts, one of which includes the Metropolitan Ballroom Tango Championship. Over 400,000 visitors attend this world famous festival each year and it is common for tango to take over and people spill out into the streets until late into the night.
It is hard not to become intoxicated with the traditional tango spirit and travellers who are willing to let go and join in will have a far better time than those who let everything pass by. It would be hard not to get involved however, with the abundance of free tango workshops, people dancing past you and streets filled with exuberant Argentineans.
This festival, although a huge source of fun and energy, is of huge cultural significance for the people of Buenos Aires and is a key part of their heritage.
