Delicious dishes at Guangzhou's food fest

GuangzhouParadise for lovers of Chinese cuisine!

Guangzhou, a vigorous metropolis located along China’s south coastline with daily flights from London Heathrow, is the perfect place to host a festival celebrating Chinese dishes.

After all, Guangdong Province in southern China is the home of Cantonese cuisine – the most famous type of Chinese food.

The main principles of Cantonese cuisine are using top quality, fresh ingredients, and bringing out their flavour without excessive use of spices by stir-frying and producing a delicious non-greasy dish. Delicacies on offer include deep fried marinated pigeons, century eggs (eggs preserved several months by a clay mixture), sweet and sour pork, snow fungus soup, cellophane noodles, pig tongue, steamed spare ribs with fermented black beans and steamed frogs legs.

The festival begun in 1987, and since then has become China’s longest-running, popular annual event. It lasts from two weeks to a month during the Canton Autumn Fair, and attracts thousands of good food lovers, both tourists and professionals, from all around the world.

This folk festival combines passion for Cantonese dishes together with the promotion of eco-friendly cooking and tourist fun and entertainment. All around the region (but mostly in Mingsheng Plaza, Guangzhou) there are various events and activities, such as live cooking demonstrations, performances and dancing. The Cookery Competition, in which the most skilled chiefs compete alongside amatuer cooks for the attention of the critics, is a major highlight. All restaurants, hotels, bars, cafes and street vendors offer their top dishes and refreshments to satisfy the appetite of the tourists for mouth watering Chinese specialities.
