Colombo - A different Asian experience

Located on the west side of the island of Sri Lanka, Colombo is a busy and vibrant city. It’s mixture of modern life and ancient ruins make it an essential attraction for those who enjoy Asian culture and history.

Amongst the traffic-filled streets are magnificent architectural pieces that show its rich influences from the Dutch, Portuguese, British, and Indian, with many contemporary buildings that date back to the 17th century.

Colombo is also filled with annual celebrations, one of the most beautiful is known as Buddha’s Birth. It is locally referred to as Vesak in Sinhala. During this time, the entire city is decorated with lights, various lanterns, and other special displays of Thoran, or lights.
