A magnificant city of more than just shopping
Explore Milan and you will find historical buildings, quaint streets and yes, some of the world's best shopping along with a large calendar of events and festivals. Milan is known around the world as one of the most important and fashionable cities in all of Europe. Although this remains true, Milan also offers visitors much more than fashion. Its city is dotted with numerous breathtaking monuments and buildings of diverse styles that include everything from Neo-classical palazzos to office blocks and ultramodern skyscrapers.
For shopping enthusiasts heading from London Heathrow to Milan, the Golden Quad area of Milan is where you will find streets lined with top design fashion houses. The city centre is also where many of the main attractions are located. The impressive Milan Duomo is located here. Requiring more than four centuries to complete, it is the third largest cathedral in the world. Do not miss the fortress Castello Sforzeco, which was built in 1368 or the Teatro alla Scala Opera House from 1776 that continues to host some of the best theatrical productions today.
Milan is also a city of many great festivals, the largest of them being the St. Ambrogio Festival, which is a religious celebration that takes place each December. This celebration dates back to the 4th century and is now made up of an enormous market that includes hundreds of food stalls. It also coincides with the first day of the opera season. Another festival locally known as the Festa del Naviglio takes place for ten days each June and consists of a variety of music, parades, and live performances.
