There are many modern buildings, as the old city was ruined in the Second World War and had to be rebuilt. With various theatres, arts events and other activities, you will never be stuck for anything to do.
The Podgorica Marathon is a yearly October event involving road running around the city. There is a full marathon race, as well as a half marathon run, which both attract plenty of visitors. Flights to Podgorica from London Heathrow are widely available, and various affordable deals can often be found online.
The city is a popular destination for walking and picnic locations, such as Skadar Lake, Gorica Hill and Mareza. There are many shopping areas available where you can find some great bargains, and several restaurants and cafes to try out the local cuisine. Although no international fast food chains are available here, the burger bars, pizza places and barbecue bistros offer a variety of delicious foods. The nightlife is also lively with many clubs and music events happening every evening.
Must-see monuments include the stunning Millennium Bridge over the Moraca river, the King Nikola’s Castle with museum and park and the Old Turkish town full of mosques and an old clock tower. The Mediterranean climate means dry, hot summer months, and although the winters are cold, snow is very rarely seen.
