Then Meets Now: Delhi - a Tale of Two Cities.
From ancient bazaars to modern bars, Delhi has something for everyone. The city of Delhi is a mesmerizing mix of old and new. New Delhi, built by the British in the days of imperialism, now plays host to modern cafes and bars, while in Old Delhi, ancient traditions such as old fashioned bazaars can still be found today.
Though Delhi, with its enormous population, can be a confusing place at first, it is a multi-lingual, multi-dimensional city jam-packed with beautiful architecture and hidden gems. The sparkling, fascinating city reveals wonder after wonder; the historical Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was home to the Imperial Family of India; Jama Masjid, the largest mosque in India is fantastically designed and built and can be found right at the heart of Old Delhi, and the Gurdwara Bangla Sahib, a Sikh shrine topped with golden onion-like domes. As well as these beautiful buildings, there are dozens of fascinating museums dotting the streets of both Old and New Delhi.
After a day of culture, there are many modern lounge and cocktail bars in New Delhi waiting to be visited. It is a city of entertainment, with bars, cafes and restaurants galore. The cuisine is splendid, with local as well as continental dishes available.
The old region of Delhi contains a wonderful market, Chandni Chowk, which has been in existence for over three centuries. It is a must for buying souvenirs and trinkets. With hundreds of shops and stalls, Delhi is a wonderful place for shopping, whether you are staying in the city or only stopping in.
To fly from Manchester to Delhi requires a stop off in another airport; most likely Doha, in Qatar.
