Quickly becoming one of the largest film festivals in Scandinavia, the Göteborg International Film Festival has in excess of 500 Swedish and international movies. This fantastic event takes place each year between late January and early February.
As a way to bring a little of the Caribbean to Sweden, Gothenburg puts on the Hammarkullekarnevalen Carnival. This annual event takes place during late May or early June, providing salsa dancing, music, and colourful processions that continue for three days.
Flying into Gothenburg from Manchester to see the city's Midsommar - Midsummer's Eve in June can be done simply by choosing one of the many available flights. Midsommar, which is held on the longest day of the year and its shortest night, has become one of Sweden’s largest celebrations.
Gothenburg also hosts many other events such as the Gothia Cup soccer tournament, the Göteborg Music Festival, the four-day Gothenburg Horse Show, the Feast of Valborg, which is a combination of performances and bonfires, and Goteborgsvarvet, which is a mid-May event.
