Discover the Old West During Las Vegas' Helldorado Days
The Wild West rides again at the annual Helldorado Days in Las Vegas, Nevada.Travellers to Las Vegas, Nevada, have a unique opportunity to venture off the casino-filled Strip and get a real taste of the American Old West, its history and culture, during Helldorado Days.
An annual event held every May since 1935, Helldorado Days is a non-profit community event produced by the members of the city’s Elks Lodge No.1468. Every year, this tribute to the Wild West days raises money for children and military veterans, and features a four-day rodeo where real cowboys and cowgirls display their skills and talents, all competing for top prizes in bull-riding, barrel racing and roping events. Professional rodeo athletes from around the world all compete, and there are even wild and woolly kids events, including Mutton Bustin’, a pint-sized equivalent to bull and bronco riding for the little cowboys and cowgirls.
Other events include an evening parade followed by fireworks, a carnival featuring games, rides, and attractions, a charity golf tournament, a poker tournament, an art show and public art auction, trail rides, exhibits and food.
Helldorado Days/ Sahara Coins Gold Rush Treasure Hunt, a treasure hunt for gold coins, is also organised and clues are left at participating businesses throughout the city. The first participant to solve the clues and find the hidden medallion wins US $10,000 in gold.
