Oslo's Medieval Festival brings history to life. The Oslo Medieval Festival is a wholesome, fun experience for the entire family. If you enjoy seeing people in colourful period costumes and knights on horseback, swordplay and jousting tournaments, this is definitely a festival worth considering. This festival is held towards the end of June each year and takes place in Medieval Park in Oslo, Norway. Oslo has a rich heritage that includes several key events that occurred during the Medieval period, one of which was the naming of Oslo as Norway's capital back in 1314.
The festival runs from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Saturday, and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on Sunday. Tickets may be purchased at the gate, with discounted tickets available for children between three and 12 years of age. In addition to being kid-friendly, the event is also pet-friendly.
One of the things that visitors, especially children, enjoy about the festival is the ability to take part in mock swordfights and archery contests. In addition to practising swordsmanship and archery, visitors of all ages will be able to watch jousting tournaments put on by professional performers.
Visitors shouldn’t forget to stop by the marketplace area, which features authentic-looking tents and booths. The marketplace is one of the main attractions of the festival; many unique items are for sale, and are sold by vendors in period costumes. The items include apparel, instruments, swords, woodcarvings and food. There is also live entertainment available including performances by folk singers and court jesters.
The trip from Manchester to Oslo is well worth making to experience this event.
