Visit Abu Dhabi for the Thrilling Grand Prix and Much More
As the second largest city in the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi is famous for its skyscrapers and beautiful parks. Not generally known as a tourist destination, the UAE is keen to develop the city’s tourism and hopes to make the city a dream tourist destination to rival Dubai.
Abu Dhabi has demonstrated its capacity to stage global events with its international film festival attracting visitors from more than 40 different countries. In 2009, Abu Dhabi became host to the first Formula One Grand Prix of the season. The intriguing Bani Yas Island, which lies just off the coast of Abu Dhabi, is the home of the circuit specially built for the event. Known as the Yas Marina Circuit, it is the world’s largest motorsports venue with a circuit that is 5.6 kilometres long. All the grandstands are covered and the course also has two major pit buildings. The circuit also plays host to smaller events such as drag racing throughout the year. Spectators at the circuit can enjoy high-speed action on three distinct sections of the circuit, which includes high-speed areas which end with tight overtaking turns, a marine section and a street section. Each section of the circuit provides a fantastic viewing experience. Billions of dollars have been spent developing the island and, in addition to the circuit, Bani Yas Island is also home to Ferrari World, the largest indoor theme park in the world, shopping malls, resorts, the famous Yas Yacht Club, a water park and a Warner Bros Movie World.
