Brest is situated in the Brittany region of France. The city offers a wide choice of activities, making it an ideal holiday destination. Attractions include the Oceanopolis marine centre, botanical gardens, sandy beaches and lots of opportunities for yachting, fishing and windsurfing. Brest is an important harbour and has several events dedicated to its maritime history; for example, a tall ships race, which is held every four years. Breton culture has always involved music and Brittany is home to several music festivals.

Brest hosts the Astropolis Dance Music Festival, a celebration of electronic music involving some of the biggest names in the genre in the country. Since 1995, this annual event has been held every July, over a period of three days, in various venues across Brest, including the Port du Commerce, Cabaret Vauban and Astroclub. Almost 20,000 clubbers descend on this destination to experience electro, techno, hardcore and even pop and punk during the festival, while younger fans are catered for by the Astroboum techno party. The festival’s roots are in the 1980’s rave parties and although it has evolved, it still stays true to its origins.

Les Jeudis du Port music festival is also held every July in the port of Brest. Musicians perform to the crowds on various stages and audiences can experience a vast range of music genres. Between shows, street performers showcase their skills all around the city.
