San Carlos De Bariloche prepares for Snow Festival

BRC, San Carlos De BarilocheA delightful and enchanting break, the Snow Festival offers guests a fantastic break

Thousands will once again this year be flocking to San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina to enjoy the annual ‘Fiesta Nacional de la Nieve’ – the National Snow Festival – which takes place in the southern hemisphere winter, from June to August.

The festival brightens the city with fantastic fireworks and enchants with its famous ‘Bajada de Antorchas’ – the torchlight descent. A fantastic destination for all the family, the festival offers a wonderful mix of excitement and tranquillity, in this beautiful city at the foot of the mountains.

As the major event in San Carlos de Bariloche, the festival does not fail to disappoint. The torchlight descent is fascinating, as over 200 skiers descend the slope carrying flaming torches, lighting up the night with their weaving patterns. Also impressive is the ski demonstration by the Argentine ski champion, who descends bearing the national flag.

To keep visitors entertained, the festival offers numerous competitions. These include the snow queen contest, the winner of which will go on to represent Bariloche both nationally and internationally. The contest is not just about beauty and the winner has to demonstrate her sporting capabilities. Also extremely popular is the axe man contest, when crowds gather to watch the contestants cut through a log which is two feet thick using only lightweight axes.

During the festivities, visitors will certainly not go hungry as there are plenty of ethnic food stalls offering a wide variety of delicious foods. There is also lots of music of every kind: local, national and international. It is no wonder the Snow Festival is so popular.
