National Karate do Championships attracts hundreds of karatekas

CGY, Cagayan De OroKarate do championships to be held in Cagayan de Oro

In a destination that practices many different martial arts disciplines, Cagayan de Oro has the honour of hosting the next karate-do championships. Despite being a small destination, it is hoped that around 500 karatekas from all over the country will compete in the PKF National Age Group Karate-Do Championships held at the Xavier Sports and Country Club. For those entered into the senior category, there will be an additional incentive to come out on top.

Karate-do is a form of budo and it practices internationally and is an Olympic event. It has a number of different styles from Kyokushin, Shotokan and Shorin-ryu, to name a few. There are many famous practitioners of karate-do including Sean Connery, Wesley Snipes and Dolph Lundgren.

The PKF National Age-Group Karate-do Championships has been held now for more than 20 years and this year will see up to 500 players from different provinces around the country competing for championship titles. There will be a wide range of different age groups, including a number of junior categories the youngest being six-seven up to 12-13 and then the cadet group for players aged 14 to 15 and the junior category for those who are 16 and 17. There will also be a senior group for 18 and over.

There will be a lot to play for as the winner of the senior category will be invited to join the national training program. The Philippine Karate-do Federation is hoping that during the event they find some undiscovered talents during the competition.
