Detroit River Days
Community festival held to celebrate the city's riverfront as an international venue and meeting place.
Detroit makes a splash for all the right reasons as visitors flock to its annual Detroit River Days festival. After transforming its riverfront in 2007, the Detroit RiverFront Conservancy began the event to mark the opening of the city's new destination. The event celebrates the city's maritime culture and brings awareness to the resources and opportunities available at the riverfront.
Held in June for four days, the festival has an abundance of activities and performances that attract large crowds down to the river. Pet lovers will enjoy the Pooch-a-Palooza pet walk, dog fashion show and pet portraits. Sand sculptures, kid's activities, square dancing and charity runs provide lots of opportunities to keep busy.
Off land, you can explore tall ships where children and adults can learn the history of schooners and take a peek at what life would have been like aboard one of the antique vessels. The river will also play host to a jet ski demonstration, and during the River Days Parade of Lights, owners of sail boats and power boats from across Michigan are invited to show off their decorated vehicles. Concerts and musical performances will also take place during this busy event.
With more than three miles of the river's edge already open to the public, the festival raises money to extend this access and make the riverfront a beautiful, safe and exciting destination for all.
