The North American International Auto Show draws the best of in automobile manufacturing to Detroit.

Each January, Detroit hosts one of the biggest auto shows in the world. The North American International Auto Show takes place in the Cobo Centre in central Detroit. The show has been going on for more than a century and features all the greatest and latest in automobiles.

The North American International Auto Show did not start out international. During the first few decades of the show it was strictly regional. In 1987, the dealers of the Detroit Auto Dealers Association broadened the scope of the show. Within a few years, the show had expanded to what it has become today. It strives to constantly introduce new ways for attendees to experience the show.

Each year, the show features dozens of top of the line vehicles and attracts thousands of journalists. Press gets a special preview of the show, but the public is also invited in to take a look at the vehicles. The event also has a charitable aspect. A charity preview precedes the actual show. During this, tickets are sold to help raise money for local children’s charities.

The event also includes awards. Recognition is given to the car and truck of the year during each show. This helps draw in the best in terms of automobile technology. There is also an Excellence in Design Award. This draws concept vehicles, cars and trucks that represent the potential of the industry and where automobile design and technology is heading in the near future. Top brands like Infiniti, Mitsubishi, Rolls-Royce, Ferrari and Porsche attend the show every year.
