The National Cherry Blossom Festival of Washington
Washington DC hosts the annual National Cherry Blossom Festival.
Washington DC is obviously best known around the world for being the capital of the United States of America. However, relatively few people realise that it is also a great tourist destination. The city boasts a range of free museums, monuments, galleries and, perhaps most importantly, festivals. As the home of the government of the USA, it is perhaps not surprising that it also holds a host of festivals that are great for visitors to the country, irrespective of where they come from.
The Mall is the central area of Washington and it boasts a variety of nationally significant monuments, as well as the majority of festivals that are held in the city.
Probably the crème de la crème of all these festivals is the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which is held in the months of March and April every year. Despite its name, the festival does not always coincide with the blooming of the cherry blossoms; this can occur at various times, depending on the weather. Even so, it is widely accepted that Washington is at its most beautiful at this particular time of year. The festival is best appreciated in the Tidal Basin area.
On account of it being such an important destination, both for tourists and business visitors, the city has three international airports catering to all the inbound and outbound flights. They are Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, Washington Dulles International Airport and Baltimore Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport.
