Luton, what a dark horse!
Luton is a typical taste of real England, and a great stepping stone to London.
When you booked your flights to Luton, did you ever think you might end up in the midst of one of Europe's largest and most exciting events without even leaving the town? Well, if your arrival at this destination happens to coincide with the late May Bank Holiday Monday, this will be the case!
This is the date of the UK's largest one-day carnival, Luton Carnival. It is a massive hit with both locals and visitors, attracting more than 150,000 people each year. What began as a humble Victorian Street Fair in 1976 is now an awe-inspiring event on an international scale. In 1998, the carnival received its biggest boost when it was awarded the largest ever lottery pay out for carnival development.
While you are there, you might want to take advantage of some of Luton's other offerings, not least the attractive Wardown and Stockwood Parks, the quirky Library Theatre situated on the third floor of Luton's Central Library, the fascinating Stockwood Craft Museum, or perhaps even catch a game of football or rugby played by one of the town's local teams. Luton is a real taste of a typical English town.
Once you have absorbed everything this thriving town has to offer, you will no doubt want to broaden your horizons and explore some of the other sights that culture-rich England has to offer. Where better than to stop off at than one of its nearest and most famous neighbours, London, just 30 miles south of the town. We could write a book of things you could do in this unique, vibrant city, but instead why not go and see for yourself?
