Beer Festivals in Tokyo

NRT, TokyoThe Japanese are embracing craft and international beers in a big way, the beer festivals offer an opportunity to try award winning beers

The Japanese Beer Festival in Tokyo is a show for craft beers and imported beers, and has been organised annually at this destination since 1998 by the Japan Craft Beer Association. 200,000 beer drinkers gather to sample over 120 craft brews from Japan and overseas.

The Festival was started because of the rise of the Japanese ji-biru, or regional beer, and offers two days of unique, delicious beer. There are Beer Festivals in Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya and Yokohama and the Grande Biere Festival that is held every April in the Tokyo Midtown Hall. Visitors can partake in beer tasting and there are seminars for the education of the Japanese public, showing them how to appreciate and evaluate beer, and lectures on the industry’s culture, history and technology. Those graduating the seminars can get the accolade of Beer Judge, which means they are qualified to judge at the two biggest beer competitions in Japan: the Japan & Asia Beer Cup and the International Beer Competition. They can also judge overseas competitions as well. Visit this interesting holiday destination and be the first to sample this year’s competition winner.

The Japanese Beer industry was de-regulated in 1994 and saw an explosion in the number of small and medium sized breweries which had been banned from brewing beer before that time.

Tokyo International Airport is one of two airports serving Tokyo and is 14 kilometres south of Tokyo Station. There are three terminals which see over 60 million passengers a year with flights from all over the world.
