Are you looking for an adventurous romantic escape with your loved one to a beautiful foreign city? If the answer is yes, then there is no better place to go than Paris, which is known as the "City Of Love". Many romantic scenes in the movies have been shot here over the years and if you simply take a stroll through the streets you will immediately pick up on the romantic atmosphere; love is in the air.
It is easy to get to the city with many daily flights to Paris being offered from most major airports throughout the world. If you need to find a great deal, cheap flights to Paris are easily obtainable, with Charles de Gaulle and Orly being the two primary airports serving the city. Both have convenient access to bus and underground subway systems that cover all of Paris.
Let us now explore the many tourist attractions that are definitely not to be missed.
First is the Eiffel Tower, one of the most recognisable symbols of Paris and indeed France itself. Standing at 1,063 feet, it is as tall as an 81-storey building. The best time to visit the Eiffel Tower is just before sunset. You can take the elevator to the top of the highest observation platform at 900 feet and enjoy the breathtaking view of the city. Watch the sunset and then stay on to see the floodlights illuminate this striking structure.
If you are a history buff you will definitely enjoy a visit to the Louvre Museum, the museum of all museums. It has over 300,000 works of art, including the famous Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci. Other masterpieces in the Louvre are the Winged Victory of Samothrace, a marble sculpture of the Greek goddess Nike; and the Venus de Milo, a sculpture of the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
If you like river cruises, then make a point of taking a ride on a Seine riverboat. There are many different cruise packages to choose from, with many offering on-land visits to monuments along the Seine riverbank. Some include cabaret venues such as the Moulin Rouge or the Lido. The best time to go is definitely during the evening - board one of the 'Bateaux-Mouche', and as your vessel glides down the river, feast your eyes on the fantastic illuminated scenery while savouring your delicious French dinner. Most cruises include tour commentaries in several languages.
Next we move on to a national symbol of military might and splendour, the Arc de Triomphe. Built by the Emperor Napoleon in 1806 to commemorate France's military power, this 164-foot tall monument adorns the west end of the Champs-Elysées, the city's world famous avenue.
As you take a leisurely stroll down the tree-lined Champs-Elysées, you will pass by cinemas, cafes, modern department stores, and luxury specialty shops, all glittering in the evening lights and beckoning to the visitors outside. If you happen to visit here on 14th July, you can also witness the Bastille Day celebrations, a major French national holiday that is celebrated with much pomp and pageantry. A military parade will march through, which is usually attended by the French president and hundreds of local people. After the parade, there is plenty of food, drink, dancing and fireworks around to enjoy.
A great tourist attraction situated just outside Paris is the Disneyland Paris resort, aimed at children but suitable for those of us adults who still have that child within us. Located 20 miles from the centre of Paris within the commune of Chessy, Seine-et-Marne, it takes only a 40-minute train ride to get there. Comprising two theme parks, the Disneyland Park and Walt Disney Studios Park, plus a variety of shops, restaurants, and hotels, this resort has something to offer every visitor from any age group. Take photographs with your favourite Disney characters and experience the latest thrilling rides and attractions. Every corner that you turn, there are wonderful sights and sounds to behold.
There are so many things to see and do in the city that it is no wonder so many flights to Paris are booked every year. Try to see as much as you can during your stay and plan to visit again to fit in more activities. However, even if you only manage to visit Paris once, you can be sure that the memories of your trip there will stay with you for a lifetime.
