Yeats enthusiasts flock to Sligo for Yeats International Summer School.Yeats International Summer School is one of the most major events in Sligo. It involves lectures, seminars and drama and poetry workshops all of which are focuses on W.B. Yeats.
Each morning there is a lecture which looks into particular periods of Yeats' poetry with the aim to cover the whole canon within the fortnight. There are also a number of themes as well as a look into the research currently being undertaken be the lecturers.
The seminars tend to consists of no more than 12 students and a number of Yeats' texts are discussed. Each day there is either a reading, which is delivered by a well-known Irish author, or a musical or drama acts. There are also evening events which include poetry readings, music, drama and storytelling.
The summer school lasts for a period of two weeks. As well as workshops and performances there are visits to Yeats Country including a trip to the destination of Yeats' Memorial Building and Yeats' grave at Drumcliffe.
There is no age limit to who can apply although due to the high content level it is advised that young people should wait until they have finished school. There is also no need to already be learned in the works of Yeats: it is open to scholars and literary enthusiasts alike.
Yeats International Summer School is an unique opportunity to learn from leading academics in the field. Nearly 200 participants come to the destination of Sligo each year from all over the world to take advantage of some of the world's finest scholars in Irish literature.
