Tobago, an island of contrasting landscapes
If you are looking for a Caribbean paradise Tobago could be the place for you
Tobago, one of the most popular destinations in the Caribbean, is actually one of two islands that comprise the small, island state of Trinidad and Tobago. Despite its small-size, Tobago offers a unique combination of contrasting geographic features, including rolling hills and traces of ancient volcanic mountains on one end and flat countryside and sunny coasts and beaches on the other.
Tobago is a very different destination from Port of Spain or even from Trinidad, as it is far less crowded and there is much less hustle and bustle. It offers many more opportunities for quiet relaxation on largely deserted, unspoiled beaches. The island is also ideal for wildlife enthusiasts, as it is possible to hire a boat and head out from the marina to one of the Caribbean’s most spectacular bird sanctuaries. This sanctuary also boasts some of the best hiking trails in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as handful of pristine, protected beaches along the coast.
Visitors looking for a little recreation and sport might enjoy a round or two of golf at the scenic and exclusive Mount Irvine Bay Golf Course.
While Tobago has more than a dozen public beaches, some stand out as being particularly impressive, especially Turtle Beach, which is known for its turtle nesting, which takes place from late February until August, making it an ideal spot for visitors hoping to combine a swim in the ocean with local wildlife exploration. Diving and fishing are just two of the other activities available in Pirates Bay, Batteaux Bay, Lambeau and other popular beaches in Tobago.
