A special initiative to help increase the numbers of sea turtles in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo makes for a magical New Year’s Eve in Mexico.

Ixtapa Zihuatanejo is a very popular destination for many holidaymakers who want to see what Mexico is really like. However, the best time of year to visit is at the very end. This is when the Annual Sea Turtles Preservation Program finishes each year. Back in the summer months, all the turtle eggs will have been carefully collected and preserved in order to ensure the baby turtles hatch safely. Come New Year’s Eve, the results of these efforts can be seen as people gather on the beach at Ixtapa Zihuatanejo and release all the young turtles into the sea.

The release generally starts from around 5.30pm so you need to make sure you stake out your place nice and early to get a good view. Local hotels always have the details of the release so it should be easy for holidaymakers to find out when and where they need to be. This is an amazing event that everyone flocks to see, and it is a significant attraction in Ixtapa Zihuatanejo that leads into the New Year celebrations.
