Hong Kong airport recognised as world's best

Hong Kong international airport has been named the world's best air travel hub at the 2008 World Airport Awards.

Airline and airport monitoring company Skytrax conducted a record-breaking 8.2 million interviews for this year's honours.

Hong Kong took the top award for the seventh time in ten years and was followed by Singapore Changi, Seoul Incheon, Kuala Lumpur international and Munich.

Skytrax chief executive Edward Plaisted said: "For Hong Kong to be named winner of [the] world's best airport title for the seventh time in ten years is a truly notable achievement.

"To retain this title amidst such strong competition is testament to an airport that is clearly serving its customers well."

The awards were split up into a number of regions, with San Francisco taking top spot in the USA category and Brisbane winning the Australia/Pacific award.

Cape Town international was named the best airport in Africa and Athens was acknowledged as the leading gateway in southern Europe.
