Green scheme being launched in Dubai
A new strategy has been launched in Dubai to make the emirate a more environmentally-friendly destination. The Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced its ambition to reduce carbon emissions related to the Dubai hospitality sector by 20 per cent by 2011.
A database will be set up to record CO2 emissions and monitor the achievements of companies and operators in the industry.
The initiative, which is the first of its kind in the region, will focus on the conservation and sensible use of resources such as water, gas and other energy sources.
These plans are in line with a drive by Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, to make the emirate a more eco-friendly community for residents and visitors.
Dubai is the leading tourism destination in the United Arab Emirates and is accessible via regular flights from airlines including Emirates, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic.
