Travellers 'given a warm welcome in Holland'

Travellers who visit the Netherlands will enjoy a warm welcome in the country, according to the national tourist board.

A spokeswoman for the Netherlands Board of Tourism and Conventions said that Dutch people are typically "very warm, open [and] laid-back".

"They enjoy speaking to visitors from different countries and often speak several languages, making communication easier," she added.

"The friendly Dutch atmosphere makes visitors feel relaxed and welcome on their holiday."

In addition to the friendly reception, holidaymakers visiting the Netherlands in the near future will also be able to absorb some culture in the cities of Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague and Utrecht, the spokeswoman revealed.

These destinations are currently participating in the Holland Art Cities initiative, during which leading museums will present a number of new exhibitions and events based on common themes.

According to a recent survey of British travellers carried out by OnePoll, the Netherlands is considered the most friendly country in Europe towards tourists, followed by Greece, Portugal and Italy.
