Air Canada trialling inflight internet

Air Canada has announced the beginning of an inflight internet trial.

The carrier revealed that it had launched an initiative to offer the Gogo web facility on select flights to Toronto and Montreal from Los Angeles.

Trials will continue until January 29th 2010, at which point Air Canada will analyse customer feedback and make a decision on whether to launch the service on other routes.

The airline is reportedly the first Canadian carrier to offer inflight internet access for its customers.

Senior marketing director Louise McKenven said: "With this service, our customers will be able to email, work and surf the net while flying and more fully enjoy what is already a superior travel experience that includes complimentary seatback entertainment and access to standard power outlets."

Ron LeMay, president of Aircell, the company that offers the Gogo service, said Air Canada's passengers will "feel the freedom of having the world at their fingertips".

The carrier recently announced that it will be expanding its presence in Asia next March with the introduction of non-stop flights to Tokyo from Calgary.
