Seaside solstice celebrations
The island of Jersey, which is the most southerly of the British Isles being only 14 miles from the coast of France, has a long and rich history and great natural beauty, making the annual midsummer festival is the perfect opportunity to take in the island's culture.
From June 17th to July 9th the tiny sea bound state is holding a range of public markets, sea kayaking expeditions, art and craft exhibitions, musical concerts, a lavender harvesting celebration and many walking events.
The various walking tours of the island will give visitors and locals alike the opportunity to take in the beauty of their natural surroundings and the recent and more ancient history of Jersey.
On the day of the summer solstice June 21st visitors can enjoy a number of activities including a guided coastal walk to Bonne Nuit Bay discovering the historic midsummer traditions of the parish of St John and an evening open-air solstice event at Catel Fort with live music and food, culminating with the launching of lights and wishes into the sea to celebrate the longest day.
