Historic return for Aussie airline
The long awaited return of Qantas flights to San Francisco was made a reality this week as the Australian airline scheduled the first of its new three weekly non-stop flights into the city.
Historically San Francisco was the first mainland USA destination to be served by Qantas back in 1954 and the airline's return now takes its total number of services to the USA to 43 flights a week.
Qantas executive general manager John Borghetti said: "The new services link the sister cities of San Francisco and Sydney. San Francisco is a great holiday destination and we are delighted to be flying there. The Qantas services will also provide direct business links to the San Francisco region."
Qantas has also announced that, from June this year, it plans to introduce its own services to Vancouver, Canada, via San Francisco, which will take the number of North American destinations served by the airline to a total of five.
"We initially expect to introduce the Vancouver extensions during the peak travel periods, including the North American ski season. This is the first step to establishing year round services to Canada," Mr Borghetti said.
