For a unique jazz experience, travellers should catch a
flight to Bulgaria this August and head to the town of Bansko for the ninth annual international Bansko Jazz Festival.
Located in the south-west corner of
Bulgaria, in an area known for its winter ski resort and the beautiful mountains of the UNESCO world wildlife heritage-listed Pirin National Park, this small town has hosted this music festival every year since 1998.
Established by Dr Emil Iliev, in an attempt to transform Bansko into a centre of cultural importance, the jazz festival this year runs from August 8th to 13th in the town's historic main square.
Each year sees an increasing number of musicians from around the world come to Bansko to take part in the festivities which include concerts, jam-sessions, jazz cafes and seminars, alongside various exhibitions and tourist events.
Last year's line-up included a whole host of Bulgarian jazz performers playing alongside musicians from across Europe and the USA.
