For travellers planning to
fly to Spain this summer, the Galician region of north-west of the country with its long fishy heritage is the place to be for seafood.
Specifically, the town of Carballino, with its ancient traditions and spectacular modernist church, is the centre for the Octopus Fiesta in August.
Held in on August 14th, the Fiesta de Pulpo is a community event celebrating one of the region's most popular dishes, octopus, with crowds gathering in the town's huge municipal park to cook octopus eat drink and be merry.
Cooked in the traditional style known as 'a feira' which was popular with pilgrims and travellers, visitors to north-west Spain should take the chance to sample this unique style of octopus, which is boiled whole then sliced up into pieces, tenderised and seasoned with paprika, salt and oil.
For an authentic Spanish seafood experience it doesn't come much closer than Carballino's Fiesta de Pulpo.
