Montenegro has been named as one of the up-and-coming destinations of the year by US Travel & Leisure magazine.
The article explains that the eastern-European country's "untouched white sands and time-capsule medieval villages" make a change from the already-discovered neighbouring Croatia.
According to the magazine, Hollywood stars, such as Sophia Loren and Richard Burton, used to be attracted to country's 183-mile Adriatic coastline, but the outbreak of civil war in the region kept many visitors away.
Describing it as "still largely a well-kept secret", the magazine indicates that those
flying to Montenegro are on the rise again.
Within the country itself, work is ongoing to provide better links between the country's capital
Podgorica and the coastline, with a newly completed tunnel now able to take visitors through a mountain route.
The magazine also highlights the wine region as a place those catching a
flight to Montenegro may wish to visit.
In addition, Montenegro is home to the longest sandy beach on the Adriatic, Ada Bojana, which is 13km long.
