Anyone planning a
flight to Goa, India, this summer, may want to coincide their trip with the Bonderam Festival, which takes place on the fourth Saturday of each August.
In a parody of past conflicts between rival villages in Panim, the festival stages a mock fight where berries are used as missiles to try and knock down opposing flags.
In addition, there is a carnival where floats with a distinct local flavour parade their attire.
Floats are ridden by colourfully dressed young locals to add to the colour of the occasion.
According to Goa Travel Tours, the nearby island of Divar becomes "agog with excitement" as "melodious music drifts from the village to mainland".
People start arriving at the village around midday, wielding and mock-fighting with fotashes, which are toy weapons made from bamboo stems.
Location wise,
Goa is on the west coast of India, covering an area of 3,702 square kilometres and comprising of two revenue districts, North Goa and South Goa.
