The beach is not the only hot spot this September in Queensland,
Australia as travellers planning to
fly to Brisbane will find out.
From September 1st to 10th the city of
Brisbane will be celebrating its annual River Festival with a whole host of river-related sporting and cultural activities for visitors and locals alike, in and around the city.
Focused on the River Brisbane and the environments it supports, visitors can enjoy ten days of activities, from live music and arts and crafts events, to river cruises, sailing, kayaking and even waterskiing, as well as fireworks displays and food events.
There is also the annual Great Brisbane Duck Race, various walks and the 9th International River Symposium, which will address the issue of "managing rivers with climate change and expanding populations".
Visitors can also learn about the "Bunya to the Bay" walk, a new activity for 2006 for which 30 school students will embark on a 16 day expedition following the course of the Brisbane River from its start in the Bunya Mountains down to its mouth in Moreton Bay, engaging with schools and communities in various celebratory activities along the way.
