Yachting fans travelling to
Sydney for some excitement this December will find their sea legs at the annual Sydney Hobart race.
Every Boxing Day numerous yachts of all shapes and sizes make their way to
Sydney to sail along a 630 nautical mile course to
Hobart.
Looking after vessels ranging from small yachts 30 ft in length to much larger 90 footers, the competing crews consist of both amateur and professional sailors.
Hundreds of boats packed with spectators line the start and endpoint of the course, which runs from Sydney Harbour, into the Tasman Sea and along the coast until the final dash up the Derwent River.
Finishing competitors are guaranteed a warm welcome as they sail to the finish in the middle of Hobart's Taste of Tasmania and Summer Festival and a number of waterside pubs are available for celebrations by both crew and spectators.
For more information, see the
official Sydney Hobart race website.
