Egypt is rising in popularity among UAE travellers as a destination for the Eid Al Fitr break, according to new figures.
Flights between the UAE and
Cairo are filling quickly as airlines such as Air Arabia and
Emirates promote special offers for the period, says the Egyptian Tourist Authority (EGA).
"Egypt has become an increasingly attractive destination offering a striking change of pace for UAE travellers," commented Ahmed El Khadem, chairman of the EGA.
The organisation highlights the fact that Egypt enjoyed the largest rise in visitor arrivals in the region during 2005, with the UNWTO's Global Tourism Highlights 2005 report indicating that arrivals surged by more than two million to surpass the eight million mark.
It adds that the region has enjoyed significant investment in recent times, with investors putting money into new developments for tourists and locals alike.
One of Emirates' special offers includes its Arabian Airpass, which is aimed at travellers wishing to take in numerous Middle Eastern destinations such as Cairo,
Beirut and
Doha with one ticket.
