Looking for an alternative to Sydney's Mardi Gras celebrations? Why not fly across
Australia to
Melbourne for the annual Midsumma Festival?
This sprawling event runs between January 19th and February 11th and sees tens of thousands of people flood the city to celebrate all things gay and lesbian.
A wide range of activities and events are available for all to attend, including plays, films, musical and dance performances, sports, parties and more.
Some slightly bizarre highlights of next year's events will include Mooning 2007 and a stiletto rally, among others.
Key dates on the festival's calendar include the opening night in Federation Square on January 19th, the Pride March on January 21st, the Summa Cruise on February 2nd and the closing carnival and T Dance on February 11th.
Midsumma is one of the biggest events of its kind in
Australia and should not be missed – whether you are gay or straight.

Midsumma Festival website.
