British holidaymakers have placed
Australia at the top of their list of dream destinations in a new survey.
The poll by credit card firm American Express revealed that 13 per cent of UK travellers would most love to visit Australia, followed by eight per cent plumping for
New Zealand.
In third and fourth place respectively were the
USA and
Canada, while the
Caribbean proved to be the most popular island destination for Britons.
Television travel expert Rudy Maxa noted that travellers are increasingly looking towards "unique offerings" when it comes to choosing luxury holidays at low prices.
Recent research from estate agent Savills indicated that a growing number of Britons are committing to certain destinations by purchasing holiday homes in their favourite locations.
The report found that more than half of the estimated 400,000 British-owned holiday homes located overseas are in
Spain and
France.
